IDTA Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Illinois Drill Team Association to promote good sportsmanship in the performing arts through the education in competitive and non-competitive events. In reflecting our dedication, we are determined to set new standards and help all who work with us to achieve our goals.

2009-2010 Rule Change Results

The membership voted to pass all of the proposed rule changes.  The following summarizes next year’s changes:

1. Teams from schools who are co-opping their sports may compete as one team. Documentation that the schools are co-opping sports will be required.
2.  Teams must designate if they are joining as a Dance Team or as a Flag Team.
3.  All re-declarations must be made by February 15.  They may also be postmarked, faxed or emailed to the membership coordinator a minimum of one week prior to the contest a team plans to attend.
4.  An adult representative from each team (Varsity, Jr. Varsity and Middle School) will be required to attend a Coaches Forum.  The representative may either  attend a Forum or take an on-line quiz via the website.
5.  The category “Dance” will now be called “Jazz.”
6.  The category “Contemporary/Lyrical” will now be called “Contemporary/Lyrical/Modern.”  The new description will read:  “Emphasis is on the choreography interpreting the emotions and/or lyrics of the music.
7.  The categories of Novelty, Prop and Production will be eliminated. 
8.  The category “Musical Theater “ will be added.
9.  Steppers will be added as a new competition category.
10.Solos will be added as competition category, with the following changes:  a soloist must receive a qualifying score of 80% to proceed to the Miss IDTA Finals; the number of solo performances will be limited to fifteen (15) at each regional competition; all soloists who qualify may compete for the title of Miss IDTA, which will be held in   conjunction with JV/Jr. High Finals.
11. The contest host sanction fee will be increased to $200.00.  
12. Regional contest entry fees will increase to $70.00 for two routines.
13. The JV/Jr. High competition entry fee will increase to $50.00 per routine.
14. The qualifying score for Junior High teams will increase from 55% to 65%.
15. The qualifying score for Junior Varsity teams will increase from 65% to 70%.
16. At JV Finals the Small and Large divisions will be removed, and all qualifying teams will compete together in each category.
17. Super Sectionals will be eliminated this coming season.  The qualifying score at regional contests will increase to 80%.
18. The State contest entry fee will increase to $100.00 per routine.
19. We will continue to award 1st through 3rd place trophies at the State contest, but we will eliminate 4th and 5th place trophies.
20. The IDTA Constitution/By-Laws will now be available on-line. 
21.  The only ribbons that will be awarded this coming season will be State Qualifier ribbons.
